Eric Adams – Look at AirBnB Fighting NYC!

Air BnB’s attorneys have outsmarted NYC  – with the law.

YUP.

In 2015, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and the head of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce at the time (that man is no longer working there) were a little TOO ENTHUSIATIC about welcoming AirBnB to Brooklyn. The head of the Brooklyn Chamber accepted $15,000 from AirBnb,  as if AirBnB was just like a small business joining the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.  The owners of AirBnb must have laughed at how they got over on Brooklyn that day. ( I am not joking….I wish I was!!   See it in Crains).

I don’t know how much AirBnB gave to Eric Adams nonprofit. Yes, the Brooklyn Borough President has his own nonprofit (SMH) – WHY????  We want good government, then why do we allow this?  It sounds nice that the money pays for community programs, but why is anyone giving to the nonprofit?   The news revealed that Adam’s nonprofit, One Brooklyn was investigated – see here (Eric Adams Aide also had a nonprofit) and here. NYC employees should not be allowed to have nonprofits.

Eric Adams is a former police officer. Why did Adams have the authority to invite AirBnB into Brooklyn like that? As residents we could see that AirBnB was just here to make money and we knew people would chose renting their place for a few days to visitors, rather than renting to residents long-term. Why wasn’t Eric Adams able to see that? Why didn’t Adams hire someone to go over the long-term effects of AirBnB on Brooklyn?  Residents in Brooklyn will never be able to find affordable housing in NYC.

Adam’s vision and the vision Brookyn residents have for NYC is SO different.

For YEARS,  NYC has spent time and resources on trying to regulate AirBnB. Of course Eric Adams backed away from AirBnB when he thought about running for Mayor (see 2018 article)

Today, AirBnB showed that their attorneys are sharper than NYC’s.  They used the Fourth Amendment to stop NYC from obtaining information about their users/homes. Where is Eric Adams tonight when AirBnB outsmarted NYC?  Adams is probably co0king some vegetables and thinking about running for mayor.  NO WAY  ERIC ADAMS – we have had enough of your bad decisions!

Side note: In the Spring os 2018, Eric Adams injected himself into South Brooklyn’s NY Assembly election by endorsing his friends friend over the people’s choice. Dr. Mathylde Frontus had a degree from Harvard University and had spent her life helping her community, but Adams and his buddies thought it was okay to pile up some endorsements for her opponent. Adams endorsed a man who “moved into” the community to run for office. The people voted for Mathylde because she is the Real Deal and we are glad to have her representing this community. Why did Eric Adams choose the less qualified person? Cronyism…..it’s the gasoline NYC politics runs on.  I wrote to him about it and you can see his weak reply here.
