RIP Kristy Shi – Gone Too Soon

Kristy Shi, a 19-year Sunset Park resident jumped from the  Verrazzano Narrows Bridge on Saturday, April 25th before 9:00 pm.   Story  here

NINETEEN.

Whatever was going on in Kristy Shi’s life must have been pretty bad. She got into a cab and she got out of the car on the  lower level of the bridge. My heart hurts just thinking about how much pain she must have been in to do that.

UPDATE 4/28: The wife of the driver left the saddest comment below. What was said wasn’t released by newspapers.

NINETEEN.

First responders flooded the bridge and below it in the water. The following day,  the news reported they were still looking. Her body was found in NJ the next morning. See here and here

NINETEEN.

Kristy’s home was just three blocks from where I used to live.

Kristy was a college student at Smith College in Massachusetts.

NINETEEN.

RIP Kristy.  Gone way too soon.

Prayers for Kristy’s family and friends.

Because the coranavirus pandemic is going on and everything is shutdown, Kristy won’t even receive a regular funeral/wake.

We pray for them tonight:

Give comfort and strength to those who mourn for Kristy.

Keep them in your care and help them

We ask this in faith, through Christ, Our Lord.

Amen.

Only 100 feet of fencing was added to  the Verrazzano Bridge this year. They said they were trying out the material to see how it handles in the wind and would do the rest when they were done testing it.

Hopefully, they will close it up soon so more families don’t have to suffer from losing a loved one this way.

Hugs,
marlene

I pray for my husband who tried so desperately to save her as he held on to her hanging. I just only can imagine what is going through his mind that he did not succeed to pull her back up. To come face to face as he is desperately by himself with no help to save her. I cry everyday…Angels all around you sweet girl

I knew Kristy. She was such an optimistic and inquisitive person. This is a tragedy of astonishing proportions

We will miss you, Kristy. Although we aren’t super close, I still remember seeing you in church and eating dinner with our families from time to time. It’s hard for me to accept your passing and it’s incredibly hard for me to imagine the pain you suffered. Rest in peace.

    Kristy, rest in peace.
It feels like the most precious part of my world is ripped away, left only with sweet memories you generously endowed me.
Our photo from Alice’s Teacup is still hanging on my wall, along with your postcards. I still have the tea you gave me, only that I don’t have a chance to give you your favorite tea anymore.

You are a truly amazing human being, and I will live my life with a piece of you in me, to respect, to remember.

    Kristy, rest in peace..
I’ve talked to you a couple months back and
you seemed like you were optimistic and full of energy. I should have kept on talking to you from that day. I still remember those times we’ve had in high school where we would bump into each other and said hi. You left too soon, Kristy.

I admired you because of your optimism. It’s really difficult to acknowledge the fact that you’re gone. Rest in peace, Kristy.

    Dear, Kristy,
I can’t think of an unpleasant memory with you, when we went to school together you’ve always had my back. We always had the fondest memories during the holidays, we would hit up Rite Aid and spend all our allowance, how lucky we were to be so young and cared less. I miss and love you very much, I am so proud of what you have accomplished and it hurts to say,
    Rest In Peace

Kristy, you were one of my closest friends in elementary school and I wish we kept in contact after elementary. You are a very smart and cheerful person. I hope nothing but the best of the best for you… Rest In Peace Kristy, please remember you are loved and missed by many.

Dear Kristy, I went to summer camp with you at China during the summer of 2015. My heart dropped the moment I found out about your passing. Although I did not know you very well, I still remember us talking to each other while waiting to be interviewed by people in Beijing. After camp, we still kept in contact through social media, and you would always compliment me. You were so genuine and adorable; I cannot believe that I will not be able to talk with you again. I will miss you and I hope you rest in peace. <3

Dear Kristy, you will be truly missed, we are all praying you found the peace you were looking for. This is truly a senseless tragedy that could have been easily avoided and stopped. This didn’t have to happen. This didn’t have to end this way. You are loved by many. You are in a better place now, free from all the suffering. Rest in Peace
