Illegal Weed Shops in Bay Ridge Continue Because Justin Brannan Failed to Take Action

Today, August 27th, Justin Brannan tweeted almost the same thing he did on July 15th about illegal weed shops!

On July 15th, Councilman Brannan wrote that he and Andrew Gounardes were going to work with the DA, the NYPD and “get creative.”

Brannan thinks no one notices, but everyone who is concerned about the illegal weed shops in Bay Ridge notices!

Brannan’s “Get Creative” talk sounds good, right? But you need to know this is just rhetoric because Brannan thinks no one is watching him, but we are. (See here)

On April 3rd, Brannan tweeted that he was “getting creative” to shut down the illegal weed shops.

Nothing has happened to the illegal weed shops in Bay Ridge from April to August when Brannan said he was getting creative.
Justin Brannan should have taken action for our community because we know one shop has sold to a 14-year-old. Brannan should have taken action for the businesses who have to exist next to these illegal weed stores. What is it doing to their business?
Whose not opening a business here because of these illegal shops?

Senator Andrew Gounardes should have taken the reigns on this because he voted for legislation, which allowed these illegal businesses to thrive in NYC.
At the end of June, Governor Kathy Hochul said she was closing the illegal shops or fining the landlords of these shops. (Info)

We haven’t seen any shops in Bay Ridge closed permanently since that announcement, nor have we heard of any landlords being fined.
Senator Gounardes should have taken action when the state failed to close the shops in Bay Ridge.
Senator Gouardes doesn’t seem to think the weed shops are a problem – he doesn’t mention it in social media or his newsletters. Gounardes moved his office out of Bay Ridge to a office building on Carroll Street in July. (Info)
Are any of these illegal weed shops that operated in our area paying NYS taxes? Andrew Gounardes should provide our community a list of the shops in Bay Ridge and how much revenue they paid the state. I don’t think most of them are paying!
