Skunk Sightings in Bay Ridge – aka: Skunk Ridge

Updated: July 2024

Since 2019, people have been seeing a lot of skunks in Bay Ridge. I started to keep track of them because the skunk population is growing in Bay Ridge.

The most amount of skunks have been seen on Ridge Blvd between 89th and 91st Street (to Colonial Avenue). Pepé Le Pew and his extended family live at Sisters of the Visitation of Holy Mary at 8902 Ridge Blvd.

Skunks breed in February and March.

The skunks live in harmony with the neighborhood cats.

Places where skunks have been seen in 2019:

1) Near the highway at 84th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway

2) Owls Head Park

3) Colonial Road and in the 80’s

4) 86th Street and Ridge

5) 89th Street between Colonial and Ridge

6)  89th near Colonial – near  Visitation School

7) Pepe the skunk in Bay Ridge here

8) Ditmas Park

NYC Animal Control doesn’t remove skunks, possums or raccoons.

You have to have them removed yourself if you don’t like them.

Thank you for posting this. Upon loading the kids in the car for school this morning we came across a horrible “skunk” smell. Did some internet searching and it seems the only thing that would leave a skunk smell would be a skunk…didn’t think this was likely in Bay Ridge. I live near the highway where the first sighting was posted and now truly believe my car has been sprayed by a skunk.

Saw one crossing 4th Ave and 99 St. Maybe came from CanonBall Park. It almost got hit by a car, but luckily was a fast runner. I hope he finds a good place to hide and stays safe!
