Dyker Heights Showed Up at Community Board 10’s Police & Public Safety Meeting

The owner of the Dyker Heights home that was invaded by thieves on Sunday was at tonight’s Community Board 10 Meeting. He waited over an hour and twenty minutes to speak. Community Board 10 was talking about liquor and cannabis licenses.

The owner of the home that was invaded explained that he has security, lights and locks. He wants the Community Board and the police to take action! We are lucky that this man, his wife and children were not hurt during the home invasion. We may not be so lucky next time.
The neighbors of this home also showed up to say that this home is well lit and they have done their part to secure their home. They need police.
A police officer from 68th Precinct said that there were four robberies that night – in Staten Island, Dyker Heights and (Coney Island). The NYPD believes that this group has been breaking into homes in NJ, Staten Island and Brooklyn where they see luxury vehicles outside and they want to steal the car keys. The officer said he believes it is the same group that broke into the home on Ridge Blvd a few months ago. He encouraged everyone to call 911 and share any videos with the police.
The police officer said that the police are in Dyker Heights in unmarked cars. Residents were looking for the blue and white police cars and there were none.
Captain DeSaro should have made a visible presence in the community this week. The new Captain is not doing enough to make residents feel safe. Residents said that they feel like they are being pushed out because the police will not secure the area.
One resident said that the community should start a fund and get a patrol car for a neighborhood watch.
Finally, one neighbor from Dyker Heights said that three weeks ago, thieves stole the wheels off a vehicle on 83rd Street. Three weeks before that, they store the wheels from her car. Last week, the wheels were stolen off a car on 85th Street in Dyker Heights and then the home invasion happened on that block. This neighbor feels unsafe because the thieves started with stealing wheels and now are doing home invasion.
Hugs,
