RIP James Keenaghan – Kitty Kiernan’s Pub

I was so sad to hear that James Keenaghan, owner of Kitty Kiernan’s died unexpectedly today.

If you knew James, you knew he loved his family, this community and being Irish! He had great taste in music, cars and liquor. He was always making people laugh and think!

I met James a decade before I moved to Bay Ridge. A great Irishman took me to Kitty Kiernan’s Pub.
Amo John Doyle wrote this song about James.
Over the years, I had many good conversations with James – he knew so much about Bay Ridge and everyone who lives here. He always made me laugh and he will be greatly missed.

Recently, Mary Nolan passed away. It’s no coincidence that God called these two Irish people home to get the partying going in Heaven. I hope they are pouring drinks and listening to Donal play music. For us here, this news stings.

When I moved to Bay Ridge, events on 3rd Avenue didn’t go down to 96th Street and 3rd Avenue, so Kitty Kiernan’s didn’t get to participate. The streets were extended for Summer Stroll and he proud to be part of it.

As a business owner, James cheered for other businesses in the area and he was sad when businesses that have been in the area for many years closed.

RIP James. Prayers for his wife and sons.
Hugs,
marlene
