The Smell of Gas in Bay Ridge

I smelled gas yesterday. Then the wind blow and the smell went away and it didn’t return.

Today the smell is stronger. It is not the smell of rotten eggs for natural gas, it’s like the smell of a gas station – but stronger4.

Someone wrote about it on the Citizen App in the 80’s.

Then someone wrote to me about it.

I shared it was Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny and the 68th Precinct. But it’s Sunday, so they aren’t looking at their apps. I called 311, who quickly transferred me to 911. I didn’t want to disturb 911….but what if this is someone’s house or a bigger problem?

The quickly connected me to the FDNY. I told them it wasn’t an emergency, but that we are smelling gas in the 80’s – 90’s. The fire truck came within minutes (seriously the FDNY in Bay Ridge is amazing). They checked the area and left.

Online we saw some people complained about the smell from the Owls Head Wastewater Treatment Plant on 67th Street and the Belt Parkway, but that smells like sewage – not gas. And we don’t usually smell that near us.

Hugs,
marlene
