We Need More Police Officers in Brooklyn!

I’m glad Richie Barsamian is talking about crime and the need for more police officers in Brooklyn.
NY also needs to offer young men and women more of an incentive to become police officers. NYPD officers can no longer retire after 20 years. Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton representing Staten Island and Coney Island has a bill to reinstate retirement after twenty years. Steve Chan just started in Albany this January and already he is co-sponsoring the bill!

We need more than just more NYPD. We also need more EMS! The call volume is rising; there were 1.7 million calls in NYC. We need a faster response time, and they need pay parity. Paying an emt $18.64 an hour is absurd. The fact that delivery drivers make more money than us is ridiculous. Current EMS workers are often overworked, pulling long shifts and facing emotional and physical burnout. Hiring more personnel would help distribute the workload, improving staff well-being and the quality of care provided.
Additionally, a strong and well-staffed EMS system ensures readiness and resilience in a city that faces frequent large-scale emergencies—from natural disasters to mass casualty events. Recruitment and retention have become increasingly complex due to low wages and high stress, making it all the more urgent to expand the workforce and improve working conditions. Beyond emergency response, EMS professionals are crucial to public health efforts. They are often the first point of contact in cases involving mental health crises, substance abuse, and homelessness. Increasing the number of EMS personnel would allow for more comprehensive, compassionate, and community-focused care. Investing in EMS means investing in the safety, health, and resilience of New York City.
But we need the public help! You will see almost no ems soon, and imagine calling 911 and having no one respond and coming soon to a neighborhood near you!
