CB 10 Meeting on Monday, June 10th – Cannabis Dispensary for Pilo Arts Location?

Community Board 10 is taking their Police and Public Safety Committee Meeting on Monday will be held at DGK School at 8502 Ridge Blvd. They have not held a meeting at this location before.

The topic: A cannabis dispensary is applying to open at 8412 3rd Avenue (which was Pilo Arts former location).

Senator Andrew Gounardes voted in favor of cannabis being legal. (Info here) But Gounardes failed to check if the program would be rolled out appropriately in his community. For two years, we were told they were closing these shops. This month, they closed a few.

Now a large dispensary wants to open on 84th Street and 3rd Avenue, which parents have said is to close to two schools.

Cannabis lovers say that a dispensary is a lot different than a smoke- shop selling cannabis and people shouldn’t worry.

When there are 25+ cannabis shops in your neighborhood, no one cares if there is a difference. Because these shops are cash-only, they get robbed regularly. Federal law prohibits banks and credit unions from taking marijuana money.

For years, Senator Andrew Gounardes has failed to communicate with the community about these shops, so non-cannabis using residents would not know there was a difference. Elect people who want to communicate with the community and hold townhall meetings!

When People Without Housing Are Kicked Off the R Train…

Most days, the homeless men and women on the R train are ignored, as if they don’t exist.

Sometimes the train is emptied and they have nowhere to go.

Everyone says, “mental health is important.” Why can’t these NY’ers receive help from elected leaders?

The Parrot Was Rescued From The Cannabis Shop

Photo: Tom Hilton

Thank you to Annie for working persistently to get the parrot out of the closed cannabis shop on 5th Avenue and 87th Street! (Story here)

Adam Daly wrote a very informative article, which shows the problem of illegal cannabis shops in a community.

I contacted Senator Andrew Gounardes. He didn’t help even though he voted in favor of these shops!

Foodtown Hired a Security Guard

Foodtown on 3rd Avenue and 92nd Street has a security guard now.

I guess the owner decided enough was enough. Keeping customers safe, keeps people shopping too!

Awhile back, we heard about a woman having her purse taken at the store.
