Tonight Community Board 13’s Land Use Committee Voted Against Demapping:
No: 7 CB 13 Members Voted Against It
Yes: 2 CB 13 Members Voted For It
Abstention: 1 Vote
Coney Island residents who attended the Zoom were glad to hear Community Board 13 Committee Members fighting for Coney Island!
The Committee members explained how the casino and demapping would hurt the people and small businesses in Coney Island.

Irma Matos – Missing 26-Year-Old Woman
Irma Matos is a 26-year-old woman who has been missing from Brooklyn since the end of December.
Irma Matos is a Hispanic female. Irma has a nose piercing on the right side. She has a small beauty mark on right cheek bone & upper lip left side. Irma also has a small scar on front of neck.
Irma was last seen wearing a short brown shearling jacket with cream color fur lining and baby blue and yellow Hoka sneakers.

Fireworks in Bay Ridge on January 15th for the Temporary Ceasefire in Gaza
Why are people setting off fireworks in Bay Ridge on January 15, 2025? Palestinians are celebrating the temporary ceasefire in Gaza that will begin on January 19th. The ceasefire will last for 42 days. (Info)
There is also a hostage deal that will include releasing hostages during the 42 days. (Info)
Many news outlets said that both Biden and Trump’s people negotiated the deal. (Info)
Councilman Justin Brannan must not be aware that Trump’s team was working on this too as he thanked only Joe Biden:
It’s a ceasefire for 42 days – I wouldn’t throw fireworks for that or release statements UNTIL it’s a real ceasefire for good.

Shame on Joe Borelli For Playing Politics with Justin Brannan and Writing ANOTHER Article
Politicians who aren’t taking action for NYC communities write a lot of ridiculous articles. Joe Borelli knows that he shouldn’t do this. (See here)
Justin Brannan should have called out Senator Andrew Gounardes for failing to do his job – year after year! Gounardes keeps thinking of ways to tax us, but is too timid to stand up for the community!
Joe Borelli could have called out Mike Tannousis. Neither Tannousis or Gounardes are working to lower the cost of housing in our overtaxed areas. We should see both of these men in Albany protesting Hochul. Instead Gounardes is playing on social media every day and not taking action.

A 33-year-old man was assaulted in Brooklyn last week. The police waited until today to tell Brooklyn. (News)
On Tuesday, January 7th at 11:25 am, a man was kicked and punched in the face. The attacker ran away.
The NYPD shared these photos of the suspect today.

New Pot Shop Coming to 3rd Avenue Between 94th and 95th Street
Tonight at Community Board 10’s Police and Public Safety meeting, they announced that Cannalicious LLC at 9415 – 3rd Avenue is shown as being Active on NYS’s list.
Community Board 10 did not receive a notice from Cannalicious for this location. This dispensary did try to open in Bay Ridge before, but that location was within 1000 feet of Kaya Bliss, so they couldn’t sest up there. CB 10 sent a letter to the Office of Cannabis Management.
This location used to be Shore Road Hair Styling, where Joe and Dennis cut Ridgites hair for years. (Info)

Movie Filmed in Bay Ridge – On Amazon Prime
Hilda shared that the movie, A Brooklyn Love Story was filmed in Bay Ridge and is available on Amazon Prime now.
They filmed at Bridge Pharmacy’s location (after the pharmacy had closed). You will see it at three minutes into the movie – it’s the vegetable store that the father works at.

Community Board 13 in Coney Islands Can’t Find a Place to Hold a Vote About the Casino In Front of the Public on January 15, 2025

Community Board 13 will have a committee vote about the casino proposed for Coney Island. And the community is invited to watch by Zoom – that’s not right.
Zoom was for use during the pandemic, when people couldn’t be together. Important votes to be done with the community present.
